Our story
From one riverside home to all of Kerala
Fernweh Travel Company — shortened to FETRACO, from FErnweh TRAvel COmpany — began in 2016 with a single idea and a single home. Founded by Fazil, our journey started not as a travel company, but as a place to stay: The Riverside Bliss Stays, a quiet homestay on the banks of the Manimala River in Yendayar, Kottayam.
In those early days, we offered just one thing — an authentic, home-cooked, riverside welcome. Our first guests found us the modern way: through Airbnb, Booking.com and MakeMyTrip, choosing our little riverside home from a screen.
But something happened that no listing could engineer. Guests left, and they talked. Word of mouth spread, and the Google reviews began to pour in — and soon, travellers were finding us directly, reaching out not through a platform, but to us. That trust — earned one happy guest at a time — is the foundation everything else was built on.
And those guests kept asking for more: “Where can we go from here? What can we see?” So we began to show them the Kerala we knew best.

Fernweh Travel Company began not as a travel company, but as a place to stay — The Riverside Bliss Stays. In those early days we offered just one thing: an authentic, home-cooked, riverside welcome.

Our first guests found us through Airbnb, Booking.com and MakeMyTrip. But then they talked — the Google reviews began to pour in, and travellers started reaching out to us directly, not through a platform but to us. That trust is the foundation everything else was built on.

Our commitment to genuine hospitality earned The Riverside Bliss Stays a Silver Rating Certification from the Government of Kerala’s Department of Tourism — one of our proudest milestones, and proof that warmth and authenticity are recognised, not just felt.
From a homestay to a travel company
We introduced our own local experiences — the untouched offroad trails of Urumbikkara and the misty highlands of Vagamon — then, as travellers dreamed bigger, Munnar’s tea hills, the backwaters of Alleppey and the heritage streets of Kochi. One request at a time, a homestay became a full-fledged travel company designing complete, customised journeys across Kerala.
We rebuilt, from the ground up
We have lived through the 2018 Kerala floods, the long silence of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the devastating 2023 floods that destroyed the very walls of our riverside home. We didn’t walk away — we rebuilt. The same rains damaged our Vagamon offroad trails, which we are carefully restoring today. Every setback has only deepened our love for this land.
