Hidden Falls
Yendayar — Hidden Waterfalls & Riverside Wild
Tucked into the rubber-and-rainforest hills of Kottayam, Yendayar is Kerala's best-kept secret — a place of tumbling waterfalls, clear river pools made for bathing, rugged off-road trails and the Muthukoramala trek. This is Fetraco's home turf and signature offbeat territory.
Why visit
Yendayar barely registers on the standard Kerala map, and that is precisely its magic. Set in the eastern highlands of Kottayam district, it's a landscape of rubber plantations giving way to dense rainforest, fast hill streams and a river that carves clear, swimmable pools beneath the canopy. There are no tour-bus crowds here — just the sound of water, birdsong and the green hush of the Western Ghats. As the home base of Fetraco, it's the destination we know more intimately than any other.
The appeal is unapologetically wild and hands-on. You can bathe in cool forest rivers and natural pools, chase a string of hidden waterfalls reachable only on foot or by jeep, and take an off-road 4x4 safari over genuinely rough plantation and forest tracks that pitch and climb into the hills. For trekkers, the Muthukoramala trail rewards the effort with grassy ridge-top views across waves of forested peaks — an unforgettable, little-walked summit. Mornings on a bike through the estates and forest fringes are pure freedom.
Yendayar is also where you stay differently. Fetraco's own curated homestays here — including The Riverside Bliss Stays, set right by the water — let you fall asleep to the river and wake to mist over the trees. It's the antidote to packaged tourism: an authentic, slow, nature-soaked corner of God's Own Country that most visitors never find, perfect on its own or paired with nearby Vagamon and the Kumarakom backwaters.
Best time to visit
September to February is the prime window — the waterfalls and rivers run full and clear after the monsoon, the forest is lush, and trekking conditions are at their best. Avoid peak monsoon (June–August) for river bathing and jeep trails, when streams swell and tracks turn slippery.
How to reach
Yendayar lies in the eastern hills of Kottayam district, about 35–40 km from Kottayam town and its railway station, and roughly 110–120 km (3 hours) from Cochin International Airport. The final stretch winds through rubber estates into the hills. As Fetraco is based right here in Yendayar, we handle every transfer, trail and stay personally.
